Hello!
Hello! My name is Hannah Laymon.
I grew up in El Dorado, Kansas. When I was 11, I joined a mime team at my church. The mime team did not sign perfect ASL. It was more focused on acting, gestures, and face expression. I was involved in the mime team for seven years. When I was 18, I graduated High School and my father had a job transfer with Boeing. I decided to move with my parents. The three of us moved to Edmond, Oklahoma. After I moved down here, I was looking for a college to attend. I found Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City otherwise known as OSUOKC. It had an American Sign Language program. I was instantly intrigued. Then, I found out it also had an Interpreter Training Program otherwise known as an ITP. So, I decided to do both programs. Last May, I earned two associate degrees. After I graduated, I took the Oklahoma state certification test and passed. The test is called the Quality Assurance Screening Test otherwise known as QAST. There are two parts to the QAST test. The first part ASL and the second part Transliterating. I currently have a score of level 2 in ASL and a level 3 in transliterating.
I am pursuing a bachelors degree so that I can take my National Certification test. I will graduate in October of 2018. I have three main goals as an interpreter. My first goal is to attain an Oklahoma state certification level 5 in ASL and level 5 in Transliterating. My second goal is to take my National Interpreter Certification test otherwise known as the NIC and pass. My third goal is to take the Education Interpreter Performance Assessment otherwise known as the EIPA and score at least a 4.0. I want to achieve all of my goals by the year 2020.
